Kerala celebrate Bakrid with Gaiety
Thousands of Muslims today offered prayers at the Palayam Juma Masjid, and other mosques on the occasion of Bakrid, a festival signifying sacrifice and dedication, to mark the conclusion of the Haj at Mecca.
The festival commemorating Prophet Ibrahim’s act of sacrifice was celebrated in Kerala with traditional piety and pomp. Muslims all over the state offered special prayers at Idgahs and Mosques. There was a large turnout of the faithfuls, clad in new apparels, at the Idgahs.
Special Idgahs were also set up in different places. After the namaz, they exchanged greetings and visited families. Sweets were also distributed to share the joy of the occasion.
Recalling the supreme sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim and exhorting the believers to strive for peace and maintain communal harmony and brotherhood in the society, Palayam Maulavi Jamaluddin Mankada said, Islam does not support bloodshed and true believers of Islam should thwart terrorism committed in the name of Islam.
